Discerning Leadership Insights is an ongoing exploration of a simple but often overlooked conviction:
Governance is not spiritually neutral.
The structures, habits, authority patterns, and emotional climates within a church influence what rises to the surface, what remains unspoken, whose voices carry weight, and whether discernment can flourish.
This publication explores an emerging framework called Discernment-Rooted Governance. At its heart is the belief that discernment is not primarily about discovering the right direction. Discernment is about becoming the kind of community capable of communal surrender to the Spirit.
Direction matters. Strategy matters. Structure matters.
Yet beneath each of these lies a deeper question:
What kind of community are we becoming as we seek God’s guidance together?

Keith Clark-Hoyos is the founder of Church Training Center and has spent decades serving churches, denominational bodies, and nonprofit organizations through leadership development, governance consulting, financial stewardship, and organizational discernment.
His work focuses on helping faith communities align their calling, energy, and resources in ways that support faithful ministry and institutional integrity.
